Who reads each book in the database?
Every book is pre-read by us. We have had many offers from people wanting to help, but have not added reviewers to our team.
How do we review books?
We read each book cover to cover and flag words or themes based on our guidelines. Our content notes include the page number and content so you can find what you need quickly. The books that stand out to us become staff picks. Every book follows the same process, whether it's a vintage classic or current bestseller.
How did you create the book guidelines?
The guidelines started with the questions we asked ourselves when choosing books for our own children and for our bookstore. We wrote down what we look for, in themes, language, character and values, and turned it into one standard.
What are content notes and staff picks?
Content notes tell you what's inside a book: the words or themes we flagged, with the page number, so you can decide for yourself whether it's appropriate for your family.
A staff pick is a book we especially love and recommend. A staff pick may or may not have content notes.
How is the Wholesome Book Database different from other book sites?
We go beyond general book reviews by providing specific content notes along with the page numbers where that content appears. This allows you to see exactly what to expect and decide for yourself whether a book is a good fit for your family.

Can I suggest a book for review?
Yes. Contact us with the title and author, and we'll add it to our reading queue.
Membership and pricing
Will I be charged once the free trial ends?
Once the trial ends, you have the option to become a member. Your card is charged only if you choose a plan.
What if I need to cancel my membership?
You can cancel anytime online from Account → Membership → Manage billing. Your plan won't renew and you keep database access until your current period ends. You can also undo a cancellation before that date.
- Refunds: monthly, quarterly and first yearly payments are non-refundable. If your yearly plan renews unintentionally, cancel within 14 days of the renewal date for a full refund.
- Switching plans: you can switch plans anytime from Account → Membership → Manage billing.

Do You Accept Money from Publishers or Influencers?
We offer paid opportunities for authors and publishers to feature their books on our social media platforms and advertise on our website. However, paid promotions never influence our reviews, content notes or staff picks. Every book is evaluated according to the same guidelines, regardless of who submits it or whether they choose to advertise with us.
Our commitment is to provide honest, trustworthy content information so you can choose books with confidence.
