The short version
- Big Sky Life Books is a members-only guide to children's books.
- Our content notes and staff picks are our honest opinion, to help you discover books. They are not a guarantee.
- Memberships renew until you cancel. You can cancel online any time.
- Please don't copy our reviews or use bots on the site.
Who we are
By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why.
Your account
- Accounts are for parents and other adults. Children don't sign in.
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email. Keep access to your email safe; anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
- One membership is for your household. You can be signed in on up to 3 devices at a time. A fourth sign-in signs out the oldest.
- Give us a real email address. We may refuse sign-ups from throwaway email services.

- Founding Member pricing is offered only by invitation, through our email list.
- Prices are in US dollars.
- Plans renew automatically until you cancel. When you pick a plan, we show you the day it will renew.
- Stripe processes all payments.
Free trial, cancelling and refunds
Free trial. New members get a 7-day free trial. We ask for a card to start it, but we don't charge it during the trial. Your card is charged only if you choose a plan. If you don't choose a plan by the end of the trial, your access ends and you are not charged. Each person and each card may receive only one free trial.
Plans. The Family Plan is billed monthly ($9.99 a month), every three months ($24.99 every 3 months) or yearly ($72 a year). Founding Member pricing ($48 a year) is offered only by invitation through our email list. Prices are in US dollars. Plans renew automatically until you cancel.
Cancelling. You can cancel anytime online from Account → Membership → Manage billing. When you cancel, your plan won't renew. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for, and then access ends. You can undo a cancellation before that date.
Monthly plans. Monthly payments are not refundable. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of your current month.
Quarterly plans. Quarterly payments are not refundable. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of your current quarter.
Yearly plans (including Founding Member).
- Your first yearly payment is not refundable.
- If your plan renews automatically and you didn't mean for it to, you may ask for a full refund of that renewal within 14 days of the renewal date. When we refund a renewal, your membership ends.
- Requests made more than 14 days after a renewal are handled at our discretion.
How to ask for a refund. Within 14 days of a yearly renewal, cancel your plan from Account → Membership → Manage billing. Cancelling within that window sends us your refund request. We'll review it and let you know the outcome on your Membership page.
Renewal reminders. Before a yearly plan renews, we'll email you a reminder at the address on your account, so you have time to cancel.
Changing plans.
- Moving up (Monthly to Quarterly or Yearly, or Quarterly to Yearly): the change takes effect right away. We credit the unused part of your current period toward the new plan, and you pay the new plan's price for the time that is left. Your billing date stays the same.
- Moving from Quarterly to Monthly: the change takes effect on your next renewal date. You keep Quarterly until then, and nothing is refunded or credited. You can undo it before that date in Manage billing.
- If you have already cancelled and then choose a different plan, the new plan starts right away, your cancellation is undone, and we credit the unused time on your old plan toward your next bills. Nothing is refunded in cash.
- Yearly plans can't be switched to Monthly or Quarterly mid-year. Cancel, and choose a plan when your year ends.
- Founding Member pricing: once a Founding Member plan ends, it can't be restarted. Returning members choose from our current plans.
Our content notes are guidance, not a guarantee
We read children's books and share content notes, with page numbers where we can, and highlight staff picks we love.
These content notes and staff picks are our editorial opinion. They reflect our own judgment and values, and other families may see a book differently. We may miss something, and different editions of a book can differ. Please use them to discover books, and use your own judgment about what is right for your child.
Book suggestions in the app come from your answers and our content notes. They are suggestions, not promises that a book will suit your child.
Using the app fairly
Our content notes are the heart of what we make. Please don't:
- copy, scrape, download in bulk, or republish our content notes or staff picks;
- use bots, scripts or automated tools to read the site;
- share your account outside your household, or resell access;
- try to get around our limits, sign-in checks, or security;
- sign up again to get another free trial.
We limit how many books and searches an account can open in a minute and in a day, so that no one can copy the catalog. Normal use by a family stays well under these limits.
Buy links
Some books have links to buy them. They go to the retailers we link to, and they are affiliate links: if you buy, we may earn a small fee at no extra cost to you. The retailer sells the book, not us. The retailer's terms apply to your purchase.
Ending your account
- You can stop using the app and cancel your membership any time. To delete your account and your family's data, Contact us (see our Privacy Policy).
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, for example by copying our reviews or abusing free trials.
- We may remove accounts that were never paid for or used.
Our content
The content notes, staff picks, lists and design of the app belong to us. Your membership lets you use them for your own family. Book titles, covers and descriptions belong to their owners.
Changes
We may change the app, our prices, or these terms. If we change a price, we'll tell you before it applies to your next renewal. If we change these terms in an important way, we'll tell you in the app or by email.
